Education

1986   B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Louisiana Tech University

1992   Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin

Research Interests

My research interests lie in the following three areas (i) investigation of post-formation surface modification techniques for development of gas separation membranes, (ii) investigation of the transport mechanism of small molecules within a glassy polymer matrix, and (iii) development of immobilized metal affinity membrane based separation systems for recovery of amino acids and proteins.  The objective of the fundamental transport and surface modification studies is to develop a program for the synthesis of polymeric materials which act as permselective layers in barrier coatings for microelectronics and gas separation membranes.  The objective of the metal affinity facilitated transport membrane projects are to modify of polymer gel membranes with fixed-site carriers to recover amino acids and proteins from solution based upon the selectivity of metal-protein interactions.
